Creation of an Independent DRC Engine for Multi Technology Support in Open Source EDA Tools-Task Objectives The primary objectives of this tool are: 1. Have an independent DRC engine that operates across multiple semiconductor technologies 2. DRC engine is easily embeddable within different EDA ecosystems 3. Validate the engine through integration with open-source EDA tools KiCad and KLayout Technical Scope of Work DRC Engine Creation - Technology Abstraction Layer: - Design a flexible mechanism to define and manage process-specific design rules in a technology-independent manner. - Support for RF interposer-specific layers, interconnects, constraints, and connectivity requirements. - Rule Checking Kernel: - Implement geometric, connectivity, and spacing checks in a scalable and efficient computational framework. - Include configurable (enabling/disabling/customizable rulesets), error reporting (categorization and filtering), debugging (highlighting and referring relevant rules), and violation documentation. Integration with Open-Source EDA Tools - KiCad Integration: - Develop interfaces to enable invoking the DRC engine within the KiCad PCB and IC layout environments. - Provide user-friendly violation visualization and debugging within the KiCad UI. - KLayout Integration: - Develop plugins or scripts to integrate the DRC engine with KLayout, supporting GDSII/OASIS formats. - Ensure compatibility with KLayout"s scripting APIs (Python/Ruby). Testing and Validation - Validate the DRC engine on test designs from IHP SG13G2 openPDK and RF Si interposer to to demonstrate the effectiveness and accuracy of the DRC checks. Deliverables DRC Engine Core Standalone, multi-technology-capable DRC engine with documentation for future development and extension KiCad Integration Package Plugins/scripts for seamless DRC execution within KiCad. KLayout Integration Package Plugins/scripts for KLayout integration with graphical violation display. User & Developer Documentation Detailed guides for end-users and developers for installation, usage, and extension. Validation Test Suite Collection of test cases covering multiple technologies, multi- technology / heterogeneous integration and use cases. Open-Source Repository Publicly accessible code repository with issue tracking and community guidelines. The entire development, including the DRC engine and integration layers, will be released under a open-source license (e.g., Apache 2.0 or GPL 3) and published for community contributions via GitHub. And the end of the deliverable the repository needs to be included into IHP GitHub repository. Submission of Quotation: Qualified suppliers are invited to submit their proposals, which should include details of their experience, approach to the tasks, and how they meet the above qualifications. Proposals should also provide a possible timeline to achieve the goal within 12 months after project start.
